Unlicensed Deck Engineer. This is an entry-level certification. The Deck Engineer is an unlicensed member of the ship's engine department crew and requires an endorsement of Deck Machinist/Machinist or qualified member of the engine department of any rating on the U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariners Document. The Deck Engineer maintains and repairs deck machinery, including but not limited to winches, elevators, forklifts and underway replenishment rigs on all types of crewed ships.
