Yacht (a yacht refers to a vessel over 16 feet in length and under 300 gross tons) and ship brokerages. Fees: Application: None; Examination: $25; License: $200; Fingerprint fees are paid to a Live-Scan Facility. Examination Frequency: Once a month at each examination location. Examination Locations: Lake Perris, Sacramento, and San Diego. Experience Requirement: One (1) year as a licensed yacht salesman, as shown on the Department's records, has owned and operated a marine business selling new and used yachts for a minimum of three continuous years preceding application for a broker’s license in California, or has been licensed as a yacht broker or yacht salesperson in another state for a minimum of three continuous years preceding application for a broker’s license in California. Average Time to Process Application: 1 month. Renewal Period: Annually. Special License Requirements: None; however, they need compliance with a local license and U.S. and State tax requirements. Comments: A $15,000 surety bond or cash deposit is required when applying for a yacht broker's license. Bond is not required for a Salesperson; they are covered under the sponsoring licensed California broker.
