<h3>Occupational Description</h3><br>An Elementary School Teacher teaches pupils in public or private elementary schools basic academic, social, and other formative skills.<br><h3>Licensure Requirements</h3><br>See 'Teacher'<br><h3>Fees</h3><br>Initial Application Fee- $55.00 (Non-refundable) An additional fee of $40.00 must accompany all applications for certification valid only for non-public schools. Finger-printing and criminal history background checks are required for any person applying for his or her first Nebraska certificate, IF he or she has not lived in Nebraska for five continuous years. This requires an additional fee of $35.00, in addition to the regular application fee. Duplicate Certificate- $30.00 Additional Endorsement- $40.00<br><h3>Renewal</h3><br>Initial certificates expire on August 31 five years following the year of issuance. Standard certificates expire on August 31 five years following the year of issuance. Professional certificates expire on August 31 10 years following the year of issuance. Each applicant for renewal of a standard or professional teaching certificate prior to or less than fiv years after the date of expiration of such certificate shall: 1. Hold or have held a Nebraska standard or professional teaching certificate, which either has not expired or which expired less than five years prior to the date of application; 2. Either: A. Within five years prior to the date of application, have taught half-time or more for one year in the same Nebraska school system, a pre-kindergarten early childhood program which is required by law to employ teachers with certificates, an accredited or approved school system in another state, a U.S. Department of Defense school system, have been employed as a regular faculty member in the teacher or administrator preparation program of a standard institution of higher education, or have been employed in the Nebraska Department of Education; -OR- B. Have received six semester hours of graduate credit from a standard institution of higher education within five years prior to the date of application.
