<p>Electrologists remove unwanted hair from patrons for cosmetic purposes by applying an electric current to the hair root. Prepare patron's skin with antiseptic solution and insert sterile needles into hair follicle. Adjust equipment controls to regulate flow of electricity, then remove hair from follicle, using tweezers.</p> <p><strong>Legislation:</strong> NH RSA 314; Administrative Rules Chapter He-P 1300</p> <p><strong>Licensure Requirements:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Must be of good professional character</li> <li>High school graduate</li> <li>Training of at least 1,100 hours in a school of electrology obtained no less than ten months prior to graduation and approved by the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services</li> </ul> <p><strong>Examination:</strong> The American Electrology Association written examination and the NH Electrology Practical Examination are required, except for applicants licensed through reciprocity</p> <p><strong>Continuing Education:</strong> Completion of ten hours of continuing education during the previous two-year period is required for renewal, of which five hours must be through live, didactic courses. Two of the five live hours must be in one of the following: infection control, blood-borne diseases, universal precautions, HIV/AIDS, or sanitation-sterilization.</p> <p><strong>Fees:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Application: $110</li> <li>Biennial Renewal: $110</li> </ul> <p><strong>Reciprocity:</strong> Applicants who hold a license in another state may apply for licensure by reciprocity, provided that state's requirements are equivalent to or higher than New Hampshire's requirements</p> <p>revised Jan 2018</p>
