Requirements to obtain a United States Coast Guard license as an Assistant Engineer (Limited - Oceans) include 1,080 days at sea, with 540 days as a Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED). Other requirements include passing a written exam, a physical exam, and completion of a first aid course and a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course within the past 12 months.
