A certified advanced practice social worker is an individual who holds a Wisconsin certificate under s. 457.08(2), Wis. Stats. A certified advanced practice social worker may evaluate and intervene in complex difficulties in psychosocial functioning. Intervention plans may include psychosocial evaluation, counseling of individuals, families, and groups; referral to community resources; advocacy; and facilitation of organizational change to meet social needs. A certified advanced practice social worker may engage in psychotherapeutic activities only under the supervision of a person authorized by the board or by DHFS in a clinic setting and supervised clinical experience to qualify a person for clinical licensure must be supervised requires certain types of supervisors (see Practice FAQs). No person may use the title "advanced practice social worker" unless he or she is certified as an advanced practice social worker in the state of Wisconsin.
